Emma Jane Unsworth’s first novel won a Betty Trask Award from the Society of Authors and was shortlisted for the Portico Prize 2012. She has worked as a journalist, a columnist for The Big Issue and a barmaid. Her second novel Animals (Canongate) won a Jerwood Fiction Uncovered Prize 2015. She has written the screenplay of Animals, which was optioned by BAFTA-nominated producer Sarah Brocklehurst and is shooting in March/April 2018, directed by Sundance winner Sophie Hyde (52 Tuesdays), and starring Holliday Grainger (The Borgias, Strike). She is also writing for television.
